![]() ![]() Kate Atkinson is acclaimed author for many reasons. There’s also a time jump to the 1950s when she’s working on educational radio programs for the BBC and her past comes back to the haunt her. ![]() Juliet transcribes the secretly recorded conversations with an undercover MI5 agent named Godfrey Toby. Her job is to monitor the comings and goings of British Fascist sympathizers. The story follows Juliet Armstrong, who was recruited when she was 18 to join the British Secret Service during WWII. While Transcription isn’t quite as complicated in structure and subject matter, there’s still jumps in time, lots of characters and plenty of deception (including a big one revealed at the very end). For instance, in her highly-acclaimed novel Life After Life, the unexpected story structure is somewhat similar to the movie Groundhog Day where the protagonist must re-live her life over and over until she accomplishes a seemingly impossible task. If you’ve read any of Atkinson’s work in the past, you know she tends to write in a complicated structure. ![]() ![]() ![]() My first book review, if you don’t like my opinion, you can go join the other schmucks who have little to no taste. Just thought I’d give you options before you either a) waste your time or b) dig your eyes out with a rusted pitch fork. Her books take you all over the world, and the books themselves are inspired, although not religious. A great victorian (Jane Eyre era for the uninformed) author is Madeleine Brent. ![]() If you are looking for superbly written regency novels, you can never go wrong with either Georgette Heyer, or Clare Darcy. If you’re looking for a well written regency by a current author, I suggest you read Julianne Donaldson’s works. ![]() I feel as if it is very poor fanfiction or a twelve-year-old wrote it. This book claims to be christian, and so I found the scene where she walks in on Edward in the bathtub completely inappropriate! Can’t believe I paid almost ten dollars for this. I disliked every single character, not likeable at all. There was little to no character development or descriptions for that matter. First she’s almost raped in the woods, then she’s trespassing, then she’s in jail, then she’s choked and almost raped again, then she’s under some sort of house arrest, then she’s almost raped a dozen more time, blah blah blah. The first few chapters seemed to be from different books they were so random. Julie is also the author of Lady of Milkweed Manor, which was a finalist for the Christy award, The Apothecary's Daughter, and The Maid of Fairbourne Hall. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book more disjointed or full of so many illegitmate births. The Girl in the Gatehouse also won a Midwest Book Award and The Silent Governess was a finalist in Romance Writers of America's RITA awards. ![]() ![]() "SOS" peaked at number one on the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart and Mainstream Top 40 chart. In the United States, it topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks, becoming Rihanna's first number one single on the chart. Some critics compared "SOS" to Rihanna's debut single, " Pon de Replay". Critical reception of "SOS" was generally positive, with the majority of music critics praising the inclusion of the "Tainted Love" sample. Production of the dance and dance-pop song was handled by Rotem. This song was written by Cobb in 1965, later influencing the creation of "SOS". Kidd Bogart, with additional credit assigned to Ed Cobb for inspiration built around a sample of Soft Cell's 1981 recording of " Tainted Love". It was released on Februthrough Def Jam Recordings as the lead single of the album. ![]() ![]() " SOS" is a song Rihanna included in her second studio album, A Girl like Me (2006). ![]() |
